4 Yoga Poses That Promote Winter Stillness

Here are 4 yoga poses that promote winter stillness, inner calm, and gentle warmth — perfect for the colder, quieter months

You will need a pillow or bolster.

First is, Modified Seated Forward Fold

This is a calming, inward-drawing pose that soothes the nervous system.

Sit with legs extended. Inhale to lengthen the spine, exhale to fold forward over your legs on to your bolster or pillow.

This pose enhances digestion, quiets the mind, and stretches the spine and hamstrings.

Next is, Reclining Bound Angle Pose. This pose is a restorative heart-opener to soothe winter heaviness and fatigue. Start by lying on your back with the soles of your feet together and knees falling open. Support knees with blocks or pillows and place a bolster along your spine for a supported backbend.

This pose opens the chest and hips while calming the body — ideal for slowing down and turning inward.

Next is, Supine Twist. This pose is a soothing spinal twist to release tension and encourage stillness. Lie on your back, hug your knees to your chest, then drop both knees to one side. Extend your arms in a T-shape and gaze gently in the opposite direction. Repeat on the other side.

This pose calms the nervous system, gently massages the organs, and wrings out physical and emotional stress — excellent for inner stillness.

Lastly, Supported Child’s Pose

A deeply restful pose that encourages inward focus and grounding.

Kneel on the mat, big toes touching, knees wide. Fold forward, resting your torso on a bolster or pillow. Let your arms drape alongside or forward.

This pose invites introspection and gently stretches the back and hips, which can get stiff in cold weather.
